TERRACE GALLERY BLOG 22/11/2020

This Christmas we are bringing some colour and joy to the gallery with a delicious selection of vibrant work from the renowned abstract artist Ashley Hanson and fiesta-themed crockery supplied by our stockists snowbunting

Ashley’s work is vivid and exciting. His abstract paintings use colour to create contrast, tension and arouse emotion. Inspired by his painting course in the beautiful Old Lifeboat House studio in Porthleven, Ashley’s work typically starts with a drawing session before the sketches were abstracted and worked up with collage and colour into templates for his paintings. The result is a contrast of thick and thin paint where layers are pled on or scraped back to create unique textures and patterns. Each image takes you on an exciting journey into a Porthleven you may never have witnessed before. Feeling your way through the landscape with the marks of an abstract artist is a unique experience, and we are grateful to Ashley for providing a portal to rediscover the beauty of this iconic town in such a colourful manner in the cold depths of midwinter.

A Fiesta by nature is marked by festivities or celebration, so it’s an apt theme to accompany Ashley’s paintings. Together we have banished the traditional view of Christmas with its cold, snowy icons in the shop. Instead, we have collaborated to create an uplifting feast for the eyes with brightly coloured tapas dishes, jugs and plates. Hopefully, you will agree that both the vibrancy of Ashley’s work and the gorgeous ceramics on offer in the shop are the perfect accompaniment for a luxurious feast of homemade food and drink.

Ashley Hanson’s first exhibition with the terrace gallery opens on the 2nd Dec with a private view from 18:00- 20:00 on the 3rd Dec until January 10th 2021
